Siblyback Lake & Country Park
Only two minutes’ drive from our cottage, Siblyback Lake has so much to offer. From sedate country walks around the lake to something decidedly more energetic, it’s a wonderful facility to have right on our doorstop. In addition there is an onsite cafe and playgrounds for the little ones.
A lively and picturesque market town, Liskeard is the closest town to our cottage. Here you’ll find everything you could need in terms of shopping supplies, with many independent stores, as well as the larger, more well-known brands. There are also plenty of coffee shops if you fancy a spot of light refreshment. Market days are held every Monday and Thursday.
In just over 50 minutes you could be in Padstow, the delightful fishing port at the head of the Camel River Estuary. With its glorious sandy beaches and the hustle and bustle of harbour life it’s a wonderful place to visit. The foodies amongst you will want to make it a ‘must do’, as Padstow is known for its fresh, locally produced food and famous restaurateurs including Rick Stein and Paul Ainsworth.
An area of outstanding beauty, Bodmin Moor surrounds Siblyback Lake and beyond. 150 square miles of moorlands await your exploration! Minions is a village in Bodmin Moor just five minutes drive from the cottage. Rich in heritage, history and legend there is much to be seen including The Hurlers (a unique Bronze Age Monument c.1500 BC consisting of a set of three standing stone circles.) and The Cheesewring – a granite Tor. The moor also features the two highest peaks in Cornwall – Rough Tor and Brown Willy. The views are quite simply spectacular.
In less than 30 minutes from the cottage you reach the south east coast of Cornwall. Looe is a stunning holiday resort town. East Looe is the main tourist centre – its winding narrow streets are lined with shops and restaurants, leading you to the town’s main beach. In west Looe the beach is lined with rock pools and views across to St George’s or ‘Looe Island’. There are boat trips to the island and along the coast in the summer season.
In under an hour, Hudson Cottage guests can travel to Polzeath on the north coast – one of the worlds most renowned surfing destinations. A surfer’s paradise – but also very popular with families of all ages and abilities. Take the coastal path and you can walk to Daymar Bay and Rock in one direction or New Polzeath, Pentire Point and along miles of stunning coastline in the other direction.
